Pre-construction treatment
Pre-construction anti-termite treatment for a new building
Pre-construction anti-termite treatment is done while a building goes up. The soil of the foundation trenches, the backfill, the plinth fill, the wall–floor junction and the ground around the outside are treated in stages, so termites cannot come up from below. Call Quality Pest Controls before the first concrete is poured.
What is pre-construction anti-termite treatment?
Pre-construction anti-termite treatment is soil treatment done in stages while a new building goes up. Each layer of soil the building will rest on is treated before it is covered, so the building sits inside treated soil from the foundation to the outside apron.
The five stages
| Stage | When | What is treated |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Foundation trenches | When trenches and column pits are dug, before the first concrete | The bottom and sides of every trench and pit |
| 2. Backfill | While the trenches are filled back around the foundation | The soil going back in, as it is filled |
| 3. Plinth fill | After the plinth is filled with earth, before the floor concrete | The whole top surface of the plinth fill, the soil right under your floor |
| 4. Wall and floor junction | When the walls are up and the floor is being finished | The line where the walls meet the floor |
| 5. Around the outside | When the plinth and outside apron are done | The soil along the outside of the building |
These stages follow the Indian Standard for pre-constructional anti-termite treatment, IS 6313 (Part 2).
What you need to do
Tell your contractor or engineer that anti-termite treatment is planned, and share their number with us, so each visit can be planned before that stage is covered.
Which areas do you cover?
New buildings across Palakkad, Thrissur and Coimbatore, from our office at Pudussery, Palakkad.
Questions people ask
When should I call for pre-construction treatment?
Before the first concrete goes into the foundation, ideally when the trenches and column pits are being dug. Tell your contractor or engineer early so each stage can be planned.
Why is it done in stages?
Each layer of soil is treated while it is still open. Once the floor concrete is poured, the soil under it can only be reached by drilling.
Can it be done after the house is finished?
Yes. A finished house gets post-construction treatment, where holes along the floor–wall line are filled with termiticide and sealed.
What does it cost?
The price depends on the size of the building. You get it before any work starts.
